Just a quick post today. I've been working away this week and so far I'm at 74 pages of my contemporary. Which basically means I have about 225 pages left to tell the story. Huh...yup...I see me going over already. Argh. Why must I be so verbose? I think now might be a good time to take a look at what I have and figure out ways to blend a few scenes together so I can cut down on the word count early on instead of trying to do it after the whole thing is written. I'm sure there are spots where I can combine several elements into a scene instead of separating them out. I find doing that usually makes for more interesting scenes anyway.
So I need to go through my scene capsules and figure out what can be blended so I'm not wasting words and I'm getting the most out of each scene.
And a few updates:
The car - Nothing major and it cost me under $100. My chanting 'be less than $100' all the way to the dealership must have worked. Whew.
Knitting my Christmas gifts - trying not to hyperventilate over the fact that I have just 5 weeks left and am nowhere NEAR done.
Agent Search - still looking...
The Big 4-0 - Looks like it will be snowboarding! Yippee!!

Good news about the car. Well, as much as spending $100 on repairs can be called good news.
LOL I hear those knitted dishcloths can be whipped up pretty quick. And who couldn't use more dishcloths? :-p
Yeah, the dishclothes are done. It's the two afghans, only of which one is started, that are giving me heart palpitations...
Sheesh, chanting "I need a million bucks" hasn't worked for me.
I used to crochet afghans, so I know they're not something that can be done quickly. Good luck with them.
And you're right, working on the verbage now will be better than later.
Great news on the car, but, um, it's *whispering now* just under 4 weeks till Christmas now. I'm knitting hats like a madwoman!
I tried to knit a scart once. It's still half finished in the bag. I need to learn again. :)
Thank goodness the car wasn't expensive. I hate car repairs.
I haven't bought a single Christmas gift yet - maybe this weekend...
What?!?! Four weeks??? Oh crap...
Don't worry too much about being too verbose. Stephen King says (and who knows better than King?) final draft should equal first draft less 10%. So you can go back later and remove some verbosity and voila...your ms will at the perfect length! Good luck on your book.
