Nose to the Grindstone

I have been writing up a storm this week. I had planned on trying to do a blog entry every day this week, but I've had my nose to the proverbial grindstone trying to finish Brimstone and every spare minute in the morning has gone to that. I've almost been late to work a couple of days! But I have only five scenes left to go before I'm done - woo hoo!

Once I finish writing those five scenes, I am going to spend the next two weeks editing in the changes I am making after discussions with my CP. I will need to cut about 50 pages by the time I'm done (quelle suprise) but I think I can do it. Once I have finished the edits, I'm giving myself another week to do a read through, another week to make any final changes, and it's time to print if off! My CP is going to do a final read through of the whole manuscript and I have another published friend who has graciously agreed to read it and give me a critique as well.

I'm so excited to finally get this done and even more so to start marketing it to agents. My goal is to hit next year's conference in San Francisco with a first sale and I'm going to do everything I can to make that happen.

What about you - any of you have goals you want to accomplish before conference next year?

Well, I'd like one of those first sales too. Followed by another sale. And another. I'm working on an ST that I'm going to agent shop when I finish it. And I keep things at a couple of category lines too.

Rock on! Let's sell!

That's fantastic, Kelly! I hope you do get that first sale ribbon. From how well D&B has done in contests, I won't be surprised if it happens for you. :-)

Kelly, congratulations on the great writing week. I hope you have that First Sale ribbon by next conference date. You're doing everything you can to make that happen. Are you going to enter it in the GH?

I'm hoping to have another two completed Desire's and then work on a Romantic Suspense. But I'm struggling right now with both my hero's motivation and my heroine coming across as TSTL. Sigh.

Anne, yes I'm definitely going to enter Brimstone this year's GH. I want every bit of leverage I can get!!

It's great to hear that your writing going so well.

Offically, I just tagged you. Unoffically, I can see that you've got a lot on your plate and don't blame you if you take a pass.

P.S. The picture of the puppy nearly killed me. I want it. Please???

Ditto!

My goal right now is to finish my book I'm working on and get it to my agent before I leave on vacation at the end of August. Hopefully I will be shmoozing with a publisher next year talking up my soon-to-be-released book. And hopefully I'll be wearing a size 6 when I do it.

Doesn't it feel great to be so productive? :)

My goals (which really aren't related to the conference) are to finally have an agent and possibly a book contract by next year.

You go, girl! Keep kicking butt and you will have that first sale ribbon!

Of course, I'd like one too. I've got myself on some pretty strict and grueling deadlines, including two entries into the GH. My writing week has been excellent too, but today has been a bit of a struggle. Maybe it's time for a reading break!
