Oh Yes, It Will Be Mine

I’ve wanted an Alpha Smart for a few years now, ever since one of my chapter mates brought hers into a meeting one day. And finally I’ve made the decision that its time to get me one. Especially after Deb Hale showed me hers at the retreat. I hate toting around a laptop. They’re heavy, awkward, and mine doesn’t work so well. The Alpha Smart on the other hand is lightweight, compact and basically works like an electronic notebook. I could take it anywhere. Well except maybe swimming, but I don’t think that will be an issue.

Anyway, each year I buy myself a birthday present, something I’ve really wanted, usually books I’ve been coveting or clothes, or a pair of shoes. But this year--or rather next year, since my birthday isn’t until January—for the Big 4-0 I'm going high end and getting myself the Alpha Smart Neo.

Soon…soon it will be mine…all mine...

Oh, and in more weird electronic news--if you'll recall I mentioned the psychic said I would have issues/problems with electronics for May/June. Well you all heard about the computer problem, but on Friday before the retreat I was trying to get my lawn mowed before I left and halway through my electric lawn mower started to smoke up a storm and effectively died on me. Thankfully I found out yesterday my Dad has a spare gas mower he's going to give me. That's right. Gas. Not electric. And I won't even get into the way my hairdryer started cutting out on me at the retreat...

I'm still using my original old clunky 14" screen. Which never really bothered me before until I got a flat screen at work. Now I want a flat screen at home too!!

Tell me about it. I've got a 20" flat panel that even turns sideways here at work...and a 17" CRT at home. Brand new compy at work...3 year old compy at home...

*sai*

Techno-Envy is never pretty....

Your dad had a spare gas mower? Why doesn't that surprise me...

I looked at getting an AlphaSmart once, but I found a laptop for a great deal and went ahead and got one of those. I don't know if I could work on such a small screen as the one on the AlphaSmart...

I think the small screen will be good for killing the internal editor. Although most times even when I'm looking at the screen, I'm not really seeing it because I'm off inside my head somewhere...listening to the voices.

And yes Erin, I didn't think you'd be surprised to hear about the mower. Dad went on a search a few years ago for the 'perfect' mower and it took a few tries to find it.

You will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your Neo. I have an AS3000 and if it weren't still going strong, I'd have upgraded. But the little guy has performed so well over the years (have had him since August 01), I can't bear to just toss him aside.

Melissa - the small screen is a huge advantage if you're using the Alphie just to write, not to edit. It's actually quite liberating - you've no idea how much you've produced until you download to the computer. But I am a bit jealous of Neo's slightly bigger screen *sigh*.

I'd like to get an AlphaSmart but as I got this laptop a year ago, I don't think dh is going to be too hot on buying me a new toy. I've gotten a bunch over the last year. I don't really go anywhere, so it isn't an issue.

Umm...are you the Angel of Death to electric appliances?

Rene: Apparently yes, at least for the next month. I blew a light bulb this morning. A new one. I should probably hide if we have an electrical storm.

I would LOVE an Alpha Smart. However, my dh just bought me a new laptop, so I'll have to just suffer with that in the meantime. :)
