Bits of Things All Unrelated

I started reading a new book last night, Music of the Night by Lydia Joyce, and all I can say is AWESOME. I'm only a couple chapters in and totally hooked. I love her writing style. I spent a good portion of the first chapter marveling over her description and words choices. Amazing. I'm not sure how many other books she has out, although I believe there is one other called Veil of Night. I must track it down. If you haven't read her, I highly recommend.

I'm in movie mode lately. I went on a tear at the library (my new favorite happy place) and rented out tons of movies. Then on the weekend I went with some of the girls from my goals loop to see Casanova, which was hilariously funny. The secondary characters definitely made it worth the price of admission alone, and of course Heath Ledger is not hard to look at. I definitely enjoyed it. Then at our chapter meeting, I did a Rufus Sewell swap with Julianne MacLean - my Dangerous Beauty for her Middlemarch. So that's what's on tap for this week. Then Tristan & Isolde opens this weekend, so another movie night is in order. And Friday after that it’s The New World with Christian Bale. If my hormones survive til the end of the month it'll be a miracle.

Speaking of survival, my birthday is a week from tomorrow on the 18th. I turn 39. Or as I like to refer to it as - the last gasp of my thirties. Good lord, what happened? I swear just a few months ago I was only 25. It's a good thing I plan on living to be 125 or I'd be far too close to middle age for my liking.

And in writing news, I'm on page 96 of Desire & Brimstone. My goal is to hit the midway point by February 5th. Already I have a sense I am going to have to drop a section or shorten a few others to keep within my word count of 100,000. This weekend I am going to start on my quest to find an agent, writing up my top ten list and preparing my queries. Ah yes, queries and synopses. My favorite.

Still no word on my manuscript to HQN that Canada Post has so graciously lost after it arrived in US Customs. They said it usually takes 10 business days from the time you contact them to tell them its lost (you'd think they would know, what with the supposed tracking system...) for them to find it. If it can't be found, I have to print off 400 pages again and resend it. They'll reimburse me for the cost of the courier, but the 400 sheets of paper and the toner used to print it, I'm guessing that cost will fall on my lap. Grrr...morons...grrr...

Tristan and Isolde looks amazing! Between it, Casanova and the new P&P, historical film lovers are having a heyday :-) Oh, right, and The New World. And people say history is dead. Hmph.

Re: last gasp at your 30s. Been there, done that. I now firmly believe 40 is the new 30, so I'm feeling quite smug *g*.

Good luck with your ms - sounds like you're making great progress :-)

Well, Kelly I still think you look 25. And act 12. LOL.
That's a good thing. You're young at heart.

I can't wait to see Casanova. Looks wonderful.

I just watched Cinderella Man. AWESOME movie.

I saw the previews for The New World and they kept showing Colin Farrell. I thought, "Get him off the screen! I want to see CHRISTIAN!!!!!" LOL

39? You're still a baby.

Did you use FD30 for this MS?

Forties are FABULOUS though. Don't sweat it!! (besides, it's a whole year off!)

I remember when I was 29 I was stressing 30 until I was a few months from my b-day and then I got excited about it. I don't know if that'll happen when I'm hitting 40, but its not out of the realm of possiblity since half the time I can't remember my age anyway.

Anne: I did use FD30 for this manuscript, which I found really helped because I got it all outlined scene by scene. It just makes it easier to see the book that way, for me at least.

Cathy: I'm going to try and act at least 14 next year. Maybe. We'll see how it goes.

That's one advantage to having a lot of my RWAC buddies so close. We can do movie nights and if it has romance or hot guys in it, most of us are willing to go. We're so easily entertained...
