Word Count Dilemma
Yikes! I realized I'm running perilously close to my maximum word count and I still have so much left to do...I thought I had figured it out, cut as much as I could, but in reworking things I think I added in more than I expected I would need to. Argh...why must I be so wordy? Why???

Have you eliminated all the unnecessary words: but, almost, just, really etc.? Made sure you haven't told the reader something more than once - just in different ways? Used only enough of the backstory as necessary?
Pretty much, although I'm sure when I do a final read thru I'll pick up some unnecessary words.
Because you're a writer! Writer's are naturally wordy. :-)
Go ahead and go over your word count. When you go back, you'll find places where you can cut/condense.
