Happy Anniversary

Today is my 2 year anniversary with the BF. We had planned on celebrating at Hamachi House last night after my RWAC meeting but as luck would have it, the poor guy spent the day in bed sick as a dog. Needless to say we put dinner off (unless you count the yogurt and tea he managed to get down around 8 pm). We’ll exchange gifts and cards tonight and do dinner next Sunday if we can get a reservation, given that it’s Valentine’s Day and all.

The BF and I make a habit of wishing each other happy anniversary the 8th of every month. Maybe it’s a bit cheesy (my sister’s comment: ‘oh you still celebrate each month’ in a pandering tone that clearly said – ‘how cute’), but I think it’s important. It was a big day for both of us as we knew right from the get go (having been friends for nearly 2 years previous to this) that we were in this for the long haul and that it would be something significant. Neither of us took that lightly.

And given the roller coaster ride life has put the two of us on the past two years, celebrating that we made it with all the odds that kept stacking against us seems a small thing indeed. I hope even after we’re married we keep celebrating the 8th of every month. I think those little things are important and should never be overlooked because you're busy, or you think it doesn't matter.

Do you and your significant other celebrate any special dates?

Also, if you're interested, I've updated the Duly Knitted blog today as well.

Congratulations! And I see nothing wrong with "being cute" no matter how long you've been together. That's what keeps your relationship strong. :-)

Happy Anniversary!!! I think marking whatever day or days is important. Nothing wrong with cute, Kelly. Enjoying each other is always a good thing I think...you need to remember why you are together!

Happy Anniversary to you both. I think it's very romantic that you celebrate the 8th of every month. And it is a steadfast reminder of the joy you share, the past, the present and the future.

The Husband and I still celebrate the exact day he asked me out - to me, that's the real anniversary ;)

Happy Anniversary!

New Years is special for us, that's when we first met. July 2nd is also another special day. Even after 8 yrs of marriage we celebrate, even in just a small way.

Congratulations! I think it is great to celebrate that way - keep it up! Every form of communication that tells someone you love them is GOOD!

Happy Anniversary Kelly. Since I don't have a significant other I'd be better off giving you advice on what doesn't work. LOL.

Happy Anniversary, Kelly and BF! If a romance writer wants to celebrate her real life romance once a month, I say Amen, sistah.

Ok - so I'm answering this kinda late (well, way late at this point), but I just wanted to say CONGRATS on 2 years!!!! Especially, as you say, given the things life has thrown at you.

And your celebrating monthly is perfectly normal!

As for Sean and me, we celebrate Feb 16 - the anniversary of our first, um "date" - there's a long story behind it with which I won't bore you (well, not unless we both are in the same room with a glass of wine each!). And, of course, our wedding anniversary - we'll hit 20 years this year.
