Run, Forest, Run!

I’ve wanted to take a running clinic for a long time now. My sister and I were training on our own about four years to run a 5K, but then she sprained her ankle a month beforehand and we both fell off the training wagon. The Running Room in the city does lots of running clinics from Learn to Run right through to training for the Ironman.

Yesterday, one of the girls at work was talking about how she had completed the Learn to Run clinic in November and really enjoyed it. It fueled the fire. I wanted to do it too. I ran track in high school, but I was always a sprinter, and even now when I try to run distance, my first inclination is to run flat out at high speed. Needless to say, I don’t get beyond 400 metres before my lungs revolt and threaten to explode. My quads aren’t too happy about it either.

But if I took the 10 week Learn to Run course, which promises to have you running twenty minutes non-stop by the end, I could learn how to pace myself and maybe enter a couple 5K races this summer. The course has a goal race at the end and for the clinic I’d be taking in March it ends in time to take me up to the Bluenose Race.

So I checked with Maxx to see if she’d be interested. It would be a great way to get in shape for softball in May. She’s thinking about it. Meanwhile, another friend at work signed on to do it with me, and the one who originally told us about it is thinking about taking it again to get back in the swing of things. The clinic runs from March 24th to June 9th and is every Saturday morning around 8:30 AM.

I’m really psyched. I think it’ll be a blast. Especially if we can get a group to do it together. And then the race at the end – that just feeds into everyone of my competitive chromosomes. I can’t wait!

I've had these images of me outside on a warm summer morning jogging. I'm thrilled, I feel great. And then I wake up. I'd lovee to learn how to jog, but I think I might be too lazy. :)

Good for you! Two of my sister-in-law's joined the Running Room and they both had great success with it.

Now Maxx you know if you leave it til later in the day you'll have a million other things that get in the way. This way, you get it done and the rest of the day is yours to do with what you will, happy in the knowledge that you've already gone out and kicked a little booty. Maybe you're own, maybe the person running in front of you. I'll leave that up to you.

Ugh. I HATE to run. I love to walk, but running? I wish I did like to run because I've heard so many people say how much they enjoy it.

You'll need really good shoes.

Run, Kelly, run!

Yeah, I'd be hard pressed to do it at 8:30 am too!

I do know a couple of other people who've done the RR LTR clinic and really liked it.

As for me, I only like to run on a treadmill - easier on my joints.

You're a brave woman. The last time I ran, I fell and broke my arm.
