Kelly Goes Kayaking

In my quest to try new things - I had a chance to go kayaking on Friday at the company barbeque. I've never been kayaking before but always wanted to give it a whirl. So I did. At first, I had to wait while one of my co-workers tried. He sat there in two feet of water screaming like a little girl that he was going to die because it was t0o wobbly in the water. Good lord. Suck it up princess! He got out before he left the dock and then it was my turn. Yeehaw! I wondered how stable I would feel in the kayak, but once I was in, it felt perfectly normal. I loved it. I would have kept going if I hadn't been so hungry and had to turn back. I scarfed down the bbq'd chicken and headed back out again. Another co-worker had her digital camera with her and got the above shot. It's my new favorite thing. I really must get one of these. What's the point in living in the land of lakes if you can't make good use of them? And talk about a great upper body workout.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I think I have managed to re-masculate my hero. Nothing like throwing in a few baseball metaphors to help you out. I really need to get a move on finishing this though. I'm running out of time and this weekend is probably not going to allow me much time to myself to write what with my sister's wedding on Saturday. Which leaves me only a few days and I haven't even started the (ugh, bleh, scowl) synopsis.

Finished the book Vanished by Karen Robards. It was good. I wasn't super thrilled with the ending, I thought it was too easy, but I really liked the characters in it and the story kept me guessing. I like her writing style.

Now to find another book. I had a bunch out from the library yesterday but nothing that thrilled me so I'm going to take them back, except for The English Wife, which I picked up because of the cover. That one I'll try next. I've also been putting off reading the last of Lisa Kleypas' Wallflower series, mainly because once I do then it's all over and I hate that. But I think that will get bumped up in the pile. I want to find out what happens with the last wallflower. By then, Mary Balogh's new book should be in at the library and I can't wait to read it that one.

Kelly, you look great in the kayak. Exactly so about living in the City of Lakes. Enjoy!

What does a kayak go for these days...?

I think I would probably scream like a little girl, too. I can just see myself turning over in one of those things. *shudder*

You're right - that would be an AWESOME upper body workout. Glad you found something new to do!

Last time I checked, on the low end about $800 up to about $2000-2500.

I've always wanted to go kayaking...one of these days I'll do it!

Congrats on the re-masculation. I need to do a little bit of that myself... ;-)

Well I don't need anything elaborate, so I'll estimate $800, sell a kidney and be on my way.

How fun. I'd love to try that.

Check ebay, you might be able to get away with selling only 1/2 a kidney...

Yeah but unless they plan on paddling it to my door, I think the shipping charges would eat up whatever I save.
