A Very Large Pile

I've struggled the past week to find a book I could get into. I picked up several from the library: Mean Season by H. Cochran; Don't Look Down by Jennifer Crusie & Bob Mayer; Redemption by Carolyn Davidson; and Careful What You Wish For by Alexandra Potter.

Mean Season and Careful What You Wish For weren't bad, but they weren't grabbing me and hauling me in. I wanted to be hauled. I wanted to sink into a book and not be able to wait to get home to read it. So I set them aside. I still have 2 weeks left, maybe I'll go back again later and see if I can get into them. I like the premise of the stories so we'll see. Don't Look Down and Redemption had the aesthetic problem of amazon like heroines. I returned Don't Look Down to the library. Aside from the amazon heroine, I couldn't get into the story. Redemption I kept. The idea of a partially legless hero in a wheelchair threw me but I love Carolyn Davidson's writing so I hung onto this one. I just have to get my head wrapped around the physicality of the characters first I think.

So the search continued. Luckily I have six more books from the library sitting on my kitchen table. Feeling let down by the last two Jennifer Crusie books, I wasn't sure what to expect with Anyone But You. But I kind of liked the premise of the 40 year old woman hooking up with the 30 year old man. Perhaps I'm projecting...

Anyway, I started reading it yesterday in the lunch room and was hooked by the second page. By page 12 I was laughing out loud and trying not to draw attention to myself. I'm loving this book. The dog, Fred, is hilarious. This one is definitely a purchase. I'm halfway through, so now the question is, what to read next.

The stack contains two Sophie Kinsella books: Confessions of a Shopaholic and The Shopaholic and Sister; First Impressions by Jude Deveraux; What The Lady Wants by Jennifer Crusie; The Big Love by Sara Dunn (I think that's the name...), and Indiscretion by Judith Ivory.

Anyone read any of these, have any recommendations? I'm on vacation next week so I should be able to make a nice dent in the pile.

Also, sorry if I haven't made the blog rounds in the past couple of days. Things at work have been really busy since I'm off next week and I'm trying to get things cleared up, so my web-surfing time has been drastically cut down.

LOL - love your avatar outside the library :-) Or as Sean refers to mine - "cartoon you".

I can definitely recommend Shopaholic/Shopaholic + Sister. Just prepare to suspend disbelief - they're super fun if you do that!! Let me know what you think.

I love books that I just can't put down. But I have to be careful when I read them because if I'm supposed to be writing, it just won't get done!
