My Kingdom For Some Zzzs

I haven't been sleeping well lately. I keep waking up through the night restless, unable to fall easily back to sleep. I go through bouts of this usually a few times a year, but I'm at the point now where I really feel like I'm dragging my ass. I sat in a meeting yesterday and had to struggle to keep my eyes open while part of my brain whispered, 'just give in, go to sleep'. Evil brain. Let's see if its still whispering the same thing when I get canned for snoring through a meeting and end up living in a cardboard box.

Anyhoo, last night I was snoozing hard. Nice deep sleep when suddenly I woke up but couldn't figure out why. I looked around the room--not much to see considering it was dark and I'm blind as a bat without my contacts. But Coop was awake beside me and there was a flashing light in the window. My first thought...well okay my first thought was aliens but hey I was still half asleep!--but following that I thought a street lamp was flickering. I drag my butt out of bed, because by now I'm curious, aliens or no. I look outside, no street lamp. I peer down the street...red lights...hmm...don't recall moving into that district...

I grab my glasses off the table to get a better look. Two cop cars were at the bottom of the street having stopped a black van. I watched for a few minutes but nothing more exciting than that occurred. Its moments like these when I really wished I owned a pair of binoculars. I hate missing out on the action. Although it made me realize just how deep a sleep I must have been in that these two cop cars, lights and sirens blazing could have screeched to a halt at the bottom of my quiet suburban street and I didn't hear a thing. Obviously that must have been what woke me, but I have absolutely no recollection of it. That was around 2:00 AM.

Come 5:45 AM when my alarm went off it took a gargantuan effort to haul my posterior out of bed. If I didn't have a report due today, I think I'd be crawling back into it about now and calling in sick. After all, I'm sure exhaustion qualifies as an illness right? Heck, the stars use it all the time.

Perhaps I'd be a bit more convincing if I had a feather boa and settee to swoon upon. Then again, maybe the dark circles under my eyes will be all the proof I need.

Meanwhile, still slogging away at the revisions for The Outlaw Bride. Chapter six is mostly an entire rewrite because the chapter was a complete snoozefest (speaking of sleeping...) but I'm getting some good stuff down so I'm happy about that. As for the contemporary, I have it almost all plotted out in point form and the backstories developed so that's coming along great. I've been working on it during my lunch hours.

My next big hurdle is reworking my 'brand'. I had this awesome tag line worked out but it is geared towards historical and where I'll be writing both, now I need to find a balance between the two. Sigh... I miss the good ole days when a good book sold itself.

And once again blogger isn't letting me upload pictures. Which is too bad. Because I had a cute little snoozing puppy today.

I think there's just something in the air today because I almost called in sick too and stayed in bed. But here I sit waiting for that infernal beep in my ear that tells me I must get another traveler to their destination in the most convenient way possible.

I say stick them in a cannon and light the fuse. Oh sure, it isn't comfortable, but it sure is fast. Good luck on the landing though...

Landings are not our concern. The mode of transport is the only thing I need to think about.

Maybe the sirens weren't going, just lights? Anyway, sounds like a story there!

Kelly - LOL on the cannon.

I have nights like that too - last night as a matter of fact. Don't know why.

I want a pair of binoculars too.

Writing sounds like it's going well - good.

I need about an entire week off. No traveling anywhere, no doing anything except sleeping in, reading books, doing some writing, and just laying on the couch.

But of course, I also need to pay the rent, so that's just not gonna work...

Yeah...damn that mortgage. Sigh...I've become a slave to the man.
